Meet Andrea Das: Fostering Compassion and Connection in the Classroom
We’re excited to feature Andrea Das, a dedicated 7th grade teacher of ELA and 21st Century Skills at Hoosic Valley. Andrea finds joy in the everyday moments when her students share stories about their pets. “In class, we discuss what our pets look like and the fun adventures we have with them. This always brings joy and lots of conversation!” she shared.
One of the most meaningful aspects of Andrea’s role is when students open up about personal experiences, particularly when they share about pain or loss. “When we share our pain and loss as a classroom community, we understand that we all have faced hardship,” Andrea explained. These moments create a deep sense of compassion and connection in the classroom.
Andrea is grateful for the collaborative efforts of the 7th grade team and the ELA Department. Together, they work hard to develop programs that enrich the learning experience at Hoosic Valley.
Her message to others is simple yet powerful: “We all need to keep developing compassion and understanding for one another.”
