We are proud to feature Holly Martin, a dedicated educator at Hoosic Valley who recently achieved tenure during the 2022-2023 school year. This year, Holly is excited to branch out into a new role, developing and teaching a 9th/10th grade English class. For many years, students and faculty have come to know her through her work as a direct consultant teacher and resource room teacher, and she looks forward to building even more connections in this new role.
One of the most meaningful aspects of Holly’s work is when former students reach out to her after they have moved on, seeking advice or sharing their achievements and milestones. “There is no greater confirmation that you have left a positive impact than when they reach out after they have moved on,” she shared.
Holly’s approach to education centers around understanding each individual student and ensuring their needs are met before focusing on academics. She strives to create a welcoming classroom atmosphere, where students feel valued beyond their grades. “I try to express that each individual matters and is much more than the grade they receive on an assignment or test,” she explained.
Holly is grateful for the support of her colleagues, especially Richard Chadwick and Valary Guilianelle in the Special Education Department, and Katie Leach, Kristen Przybylo, and Marci Pieras in the English Department, who have welcomed her into her new role as an English 9/10 teacher.
Her message to others is a powerful one, inspired by Nikki Banas: “You never really know the true impact you have on those around you. So don’t wait to be kind. Just be kind, because you never know how much someone needs it.”
