We are excited to feature Alison Wimmer, who is entering her third year as a Physical Education Teacher and Coach at Hoosic Valley. Recently, Alison had the opportunity to volunteer at the fried dough booth during the fair, an experience that highlighted the close-knit community spirit at Hoosic Valley. “It is wonderful to see the community come together to help raise money for our athletes. I am honored to be a part of it,” she shared.
As Alison reflects on her time at Hoosic Valley, she is proud of the strong bonds she has created with her students over the past few years. These connections have become a meaningful part of her role as an educator. “Having this bond with my students gives me the opportunity to have a positive influence on assisting them in becoming physically literate individuals who are lifelong movers,” Alison explained. She hopes that the comfort her students feel in her Physical Education classes will encourage them to continue being active beyond high school.
Alison credits her mother and grandmother, both physical education teachers, as her teaching inspirations. “As a third-generation physical education teacher, they have been role models in my development as an educator,” she said. Their emphasis on connecting with students has shaped her teaching approach, and she is grateful for the support she has received from the physical education department and the teams she has coached at Hoosic Valley.
Her message is clear: “The importance of meaningful connections between teachers and their students cannot be overstated. Kindness, patience, and respect are attributes that I hope reflect on my students.”
