Elementary Music Teacher, Jacqui Paglialonga, is currently pursuing her MSW degree at UAlbany and is thrilled to be completing her social work internship at Hoosic Valley! Jacqui’s passion for education, music, and social work allows her to make a meaningful impact on our students every day.
Jacqui shared a special moment from the first day of school this year, which also happened to be her birthday. Despite having car trouble and missing the presence of her daughter, who is no longer in the same school, her spirits were lifted when students sang to her, and teachers brought her flowers. “It brightened my mood completely,” she reflected, appreciating how the school community made her day so memorable.
Jacqui’s work toward her MSW has given her a broader perspective on how music can be more than just a “fun place” for students. Through her training in the Responsive Classroom approach, she has learned that music can help students build resilience, communicate, engage with their families, and advocate for change. This realization has allowed her to approach education with greater flexibility and nuance, connecting the dots between music and social work in a powerful way.
Jacqui feels very supported by her colleagues at the elementary school and is grateful for the opportunity to work in such a positive environment. “I am grateful every day that I get to do what I do,” she shared.
Her message to the Hawk community is uplifting: “Continue to spread joy and good news because there is so much that is wonderful about this community!
