We are excited to spotlight Amber Collette, our Jr./Sr. High School Nurse at Hoosic Valley, who is dedicated to building strong relationships with our students. Amber takes great pride in gaining the trust of our students and creating meaningful connections with each one of them.
One of the most rewarding moments in Amber’s role came when a student thanked her for simply being there and helping them when they needed it. The student felt like they were a burden, thinking they took too much of her time. “But that’s what I’m here for, to help when they need it, and I never question how much time someone may take,” Amber shared. This gratitude serves as a reminder of the importance of her role and the impact she has on the students’ lives.
This experience has taught Amber the importance of keeping an open mind. “If a student is having a bad day, I think back to how much they might appreciate what I’m doing, even something as simple as just listening,” she reflected.
Amber credits all of her students for shaping her approach as a nurse. “From giving out band-aids to dealing with broken bones, every situation I face teaches me something I may not have known about the students,” she says. Each interaction adds to her understanding of how best to support her students.
Amber’s message is simple but powerful: “You have no idea what someone could be going through, so be kind. Just a smile could change someone’s entire day.”
