We are excited to introduce Beth Lipson, our Social Worker who is dedicated to supporting students and families at Hoosic Valley! This year, Beth will be working in both the Elementary and Junior Senior High School buildings, and she is looking forward to connecting with students across all grades.
Outside of school, Beth recently celebrated an exciting personal milestone—she got engaged and is now planning her wedding!
In her role as a social worker, Beth’s impact is felt most deeply by the students who rely on her for support both at home and in school. “It’s very rewarding building those meaningful relationships with the students and being a constant in their lives,” Beth shared. She emphasizes the importance of being there for students who see her as their primary source of support, and she finds great meaning in those connections.
Beth’s experience working closely with students and their families has shaped her approach to her role. “I’ve learned that you need to meet the students where they are. A child can’t focus in class if their stomach is growling or if they are feeling overwhelmed not knowing where they’ll sleep that night,” she said. She believes that once a student’s basic needs are met, it becomes much easier for them to focus on learning and other tasks.
Beth also appreciates the teamwork she experiences at Hoosic Valley. “All of the staff is always willing to help out whenever there is a need for a child. It’s a great feeling knowing that everyone can work together to better the students,” she added.
Her message to the community is clear: “We need to meet our students where they are that day.” Understanding and supporting students in the moment is key to helping them succeed.
