We are thrilled to introduce Kayla Lewis, the newest addition to our Earth Science department. Kayla joins us with an extensive background in meteorology, holding a Bachelor of Science from SUNY Oswego, where she not only excelled academically, but also participated in exhilarating storm chasing adventures.
Kayla’s enthusiasm for Earth Science shines brightest when teaching about the weather. Her experiences in field campaigns have equipped her with firsthand knowledge, which she brings into the classroom to inspire and engage her students. “Seeing students get excited and engaged is one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching,” Kayla shares. Kayla loves to infuse her lessons with real-world experiences that capture students’ imagination.
What makes Kayla’s teaching approach special is her commitment to making her classroom a welcoming and positive space. She believes passionately that a teacher’s enthusiasm is contagious and can significantly enhance student learning. “It’s important to build relationships with students to create a welcoming, positive environment,” she explains.
A significant influence in her journey has been Sara Straub, who has played a supportive role in integrating Kayla into our community. Together, they strive to make Hoosic Valley a nurturing ground for both educational pursuits and personal growth.
Kayla’s message to everyone at Hoosic Valley is simple yet profound: “Have fun, be positive, and find what you are passionate about.” We look forward to Kayla making her mark here and she hopes to instill these values in all her students!
