The Hoosic Valley Odyssey of the Mind program wrapped up its most successful year ever in Ames, Iowa last week. Two of our teams, escorted by their coaches and many family members, made the 1000+ mile drive to the Iowa State Campus to compete in the World Finals. Over 6000 students from 49 states and 10 countries filled the Hilton Arena for the opening ceremonies on Tuesday May 21st. The energy in the arena and on campus was contagious and life changing for our students.
Both of our teams had little down time during the week as they prepared for competition and attended various events. They represented Hoosic Valley with hard work, dedication, and integrity. The final ceremonies and results were held on Friday evening in a packed stadium. The air was filled with excitement as the top six finishers from each division were announced. The New York Delegation erupted when it was announced that the Hoosic Valley High School team finished 5th in their division. The Hoosic Valley Junior High School team also finished an amazing 16th out of 59 teams.
The hard work and dedication of the coaches, Kyle Schmidt and Margaret Rice, helped our students believe in themselves and reach their potential. We could not be prouder of these students and all the other students and volunteers in the Odyssey of the Mind program. With strong teamwork, support and guidance, there is nothing our students can’t accomplish.
