This event, part of the New York State School Music Association’s MIOSM concert series since 1973, highlights the importance of music education nationwide. Additionally, 20 of our students’ artistic creations were featured in the Youth Art Month art show, continuing a tradition that started as Children’s Art Month in 1961.
Our trip to the Empire State Plaza wasn’t just about performance and exhibition. Our 70 students, guided by Ms. Paglialonga and Ms. Baumeister, and accompanied by 10 chaperones, had a full day of activities. They engaged in discussions about their art, enjoyed performances by other groups, and interacted with state and county politicians including Dan Casale, Rensselaer County Legislator, Scott Bendett, NYS Assemblyman, and Jake Ashby, NYS Senator.
This experience extends beyond arts, as it offers a unique opportunity for students to learn about government workings and policy-making – crucial as March is a key month for state budget negotiations.
